Trailblazers of Tulane: Honoring Black Alumnae

In 1966 Deidre Labat became the first Black woman to earn a degree from Newcomb College, Tulane’s former women’s college. Since then, Tulane has graduated many inspiring Black women, and this Black History Month is a great opportunity to take a closer look at some of their success stories.

 

Heide Winston

Heide Winston manages communications for Newcomb Institute and leads messaging across the institute’s various audiences and platforms. She previously served as director of communications and civic engagement in the Office of the President Emeritus and was a member of the President’s Office team under Tulane University’s 14th president, Scott Cowen. As an adjunct instructor at Tulane, she has taught undergraduate courses on leadership and higher education management.
