Biography

Heide Winston manages communications for Newcomb Institute and leads messaging across the institute’s various audiences and platforms. She previously served as director of communications and civic engagement in the Office of the President Emeritus and was a member of the President’s Office team under Tulane University’s 14th president, Scott Cowen. As an adjunct instructor at Tulane, she has taught undergraduate courses on leadership and higher education management.

Heide is the founder of Geaux Girl!, a nonprofit print and online magazine created for and with New Orleans teen girls that provides comprehensive reproductive health information. In 2021, she was honored for her work as one of Gambit's 40 Under 40. She is a member of the Louisiana Adolescent Reproductive Health Coalition and a trained sex educator.

Heide is a board member of the Anti-Defamation League South Central Region and a graduate of Loyola University’s Women’s Leadership Academy, the Jewish Federation’s Katz-Phillips Leadership Development Program, and the Bryan Bell Metropolitan Leadership Forum. Born and raised in Germany, she holds a master’s degree in cultural anthropology from the University of Hamburg.
