Student Programs Overview
Students at Tulane University are encouraged to participate in programs offered at Newcomb Institute.
Our three flagship programs are Leadership, Internships, and Scholars. Each pathway provides students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to grow as leaders, scholars, and professionals. If you are a current Tulane student and are interested in any of these opportunities, please register to become a Newcomb student.

Students can further enrich their experience through additional Newcomb offerings including the Peer Mentor Program, the Public Leadership and Education Network (PLEN), Feminist Camp, Acorns and Oaks Program, and Student-Run Organization Leadership opportunities.
Together, these create multiple avenues for learning, leadership, professional growth, and community engagement throughout a student's time at Tulane. While many students engage with these opportunities as part of a flagship program, they are also open to all registered Tulane students seeking additional opportunities for involvement and growth.

Internship Program:
Newcomb Internship Program offers opportunities for profession training. It provides paid internships for undergraduates to build professional skills through experiential learning with Tulane faculty, local, national, and global organizations focused on gender equity and women’s empowerment. Participants in this program will also learn from new and continuing interns as well as from leaders in the field through monthly meetings. Students are paid $15 per hour for up to 15 hours per week.
All full-time students at Tulane University are eligible to apply to the Newcomb Internship Program and must register to become a Newcomb Student.

"My internship has been one of the most meaningful and formative experiences of my college career so far...As a Biomedical Engineering major on the premed track at Tulane University, much of my academic experience focuses on the technical aspects of healthcare. My time at ReproTLC encouraged me to think more deeply about healthcare access, patient experience, and the role education and advocacy play in medicine. These are perspectives that are not always emphasized in the classroom, yet they are equally essential to compassionate and effective healthcare."
LEADERSHIP COHORT PROGRAM:
Newcomb Leadership Cohort Program is a two-year training experience that offers co-curricular opportunities for students to become socially responsible, equity-driven, and career-ready undergraduate leaders. Students will cultivate the skills, values, and knowledge necessary to lead with integrity and drive meaningful change in their communities and professional fields. The program culminates in an independent project that addresses gender equity issues, showcasing your abilities to potential employers and graduate programs.
All full-time students at Tulane University are eligible to apply to the Newcomb Leadership Program.

"The Newcomb Leaders cohort has been one of the most genuinely transformative experiences of my time at Tulane. What has surprised me most is how much I have grown not just as a professional but as a person and as a woman. This program did not just teach me skills; it gave me a community. It was also through this program that I found my mentor, a Newcomb alumna whose path inspired me long before I ever reached out to her. That relationship has meant more to me than I can easily put into words, and it led directly to me securing a summer internship with her nonprofit. That opportunity would not exist without this program."
Newcomb Scholars Program:
Newcomb Scholars Program is a four-year cohort-based program designed to support students’ academic growth toward development of independent scholarship and research training in their discipline or field. Applications are due freshman year. With our support, students can present research at national conferences funded by the Institute and at the Scholars Symposium during their senior year.
All first-year, full-time students at Tulane University are eligible to apply to the Newcomb Scholars Program during their first fall semester.

"The Newcomb Scholars program has immensely shaped my journey as a first-generation college student and neuroscience major with an interest in women’s health. Through faculty support and rigorous coursework such as Case Studies on Gender and Work, I’ve learned how to navigate leadership and research, focusing on transgender surgery policies in my recent case study. The program has altered my perspective on leadership and connected me to the broader New Orleans community, inspiring my work as a SAPHE sexual violence survivor advocate and an intern for the Louisiana Coalition for Reproductive Freedom."
