Louisiana College Students
RAISE (Raising Awareness and Informed Student Engagement)
Newcomb Institute builds on Tulane’s rich history of civic engagement to address challenges and meet community needs, all within a framework of education for women’s empowerment. We are excited to launch the RAISE program this year. The program is a statewide effort to support post-secondary education students from across Louisiana to build knowledge of sexual, reproductive, and maternal health, to build skills and awareness of the policy-making process in our state using a nonpartisan approach, and to gain connection to a network of evidence-based governmental and nongovernmental groups and programs focused on healthy relationships and healthy families in Louisiana.
Students enrolled at any two- or four-year college in the state of Louisiana, pursuing any field of study, are encouraged to apply.
At the end of this experience, students will:
- Understand Louisiana’s sexual and maternal health landscape through public health research and data
- Recognize the history of community and legislative work around reproductive health
- Identify the process of policy development at the state level
- Develop the skills to share information about these issues with members of their communities
