Biography

Ellie Goecken is the Archivist for Public Engagement and Research Services for the Newcomb Archives and Vorhoff Collection at the Newcomb Institute. Ellie has earned Bachelor's degrees in Music, Theatre Performance, and French/Francophone Studies from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. From there, she went on to complete a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, with a focus in Archival Studies. There, Ellie worked with archival collections concerning the higher education institutions where she worked, as well as the greater Milwaukee area’s rich history.

Through her position at the Newcomb Institute, Ellie hopes to bring awareness to archives and the resources they can provide, as well as providing access to information for all those who seek it. She plans to use a creative approach to accomplish these goals by utilizing her education in the fine arts and her dedication to information access and literacy. As a midwestern transplant, Ellie looks forward to engaging with the community and providing access to an incredible collection. Outside of the reading room, she enjoys choral singing, music history, genealogical research, and learning new languages.
