Objective:
This proposal invites Tulane students to submit existing artwork or proposals for original pieces. The selected artwork will be prominently featured as the cover of the Under the Oaks program, Newcomb Institute's graduation award ceremony, and distributed as a print to attendees at the annual ceremony. Additionally, the winning artist will be recognized in the program and on Newcomb Institute's social media as well as receive a $250 stipend for their contribution.
Under the Oaks is a cherished tradition hosted by Newcomb Institute during Commencement Week to honor graduating students, outstanding faculty, and alumnae. This year, the Newcomb College Class of 1975 is invited back to campus to celebrate their 50-year reunion.
Art Submission Guidelines:
- Medium: Artists may submit artwork in any medium, including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, digital art, collage, and mixed media. The artwork should be visually impactful and suitable for reproduction as the cover of the program.
- Submission Requirements:
- Existing Artwork: Students can submit existing pieces that align with the theme.
- Proposal for New Artwork: Alternatively, students may submit a proposal outlining their concept for a new piece of art. This proposal should describe the intended artwork, medium, and how it relates to the theme and provide examples of the style they intend to use
Additional Details
- Stipend: Selected artists will receive a stipend of $250 for their contribution. This stipend recognizes the time, effort, and talent the artist invested.
- Submission Process:
- Interested students should submit their artwork or proposal via email to newcombcommunications@tulane.edu by March 15th.
- The submission email should include the artist's name, contact information, and relevant details about the artwork or proposal. Existing artwork should be submitted as a digital image file.
Selection Criteria:
- Creativity and Originality: The artwork should demonstrate creative interpretation and originality in addressing the theme.
- Visual Impact: The artwork should be visually compelling and suitable for reproduction as the program cover and print.
- Feasibility: For proposals, consideration will be given to the feasibility of executing the proposed artwork within the provided stipend and timeframe (artwork needs to be completed by April 29th)
