We conduct multidisciplinary research with a focus on the Gulf South and in partnership with both government and community partners, to provide evidence for programs and policies that improve gender equity and women’s empowerment. This work includes data and evidence generation, creation of open-access datasets, collecting and preserving archival materials for public access, and training undergraduate, and graduate, and post-doctoral researchers.
RESEARCH FOCUS:
Sexual, Reproductive, and Maternal Health and Policy: Newcomb Institute researchers analyze attitudes, behaviors, experiences, and outcomes, along with legislative and cultural discourses, related to sexual, reproductive, and maternal health.
Gender-Based Violence: We conduct research on domestic violence and sexual violence, as well as other forms of gender-based violence and harms, and assess the associations between these experiences and economic vulnerability, mental health concerns, and substance misuse.
Feminist Civic Engagement and Leadership: We study feminism and women’s empowerment in various contexts, including in the classroom, in the Gulf South, and across the globe.
