This summer I had my first experience with journalism as an editorial intern for Ms. Magazine, and it has been nothing short of transformative. As someone who has always been passionate about reproductive rights and feminist issues, working with Ms. Magazine felt like a dream come true.

During my internship, I had the opportunity to publish three articles. You can read them here. Writing these articles allowed me to delve deeply into subjects I care about. It was fulfilling to see my work published and to know that it resonated with readers.

One of the most memorable experiences of my internship was conducting my first Q&A session for the "Power the Polls" initiative. This was a significant milestone for me, as it involved engaging directly with people and bringing their stories to light. The process was challenging but immensely rewarding, and it solidified my love for the work of an editorial writer.

Additionally, I helped with the Instagram grids, contributing to posts like this one and this one.

The editorial team at Ms. Magazine has been incredibly supportive, providing me with invaluable feedback and guidance. Their mentorship has made me more confident in my editorial skills, and I am excited to continue my internship through the fall semester. In addition to my editorial duties, I will be helping with the Ms. Magazine podcast—a new avenue that I am eager to explore.

Working at Ms. Magazine has taught me that the journalism process is not for the faint of heart. It requires dedication, resilience, and a passion for truth-telling. Yet, it is this very intensity that makes the work so fulfilling. I have learned to navigate the intricacies of editorial work, from reviewing articles to pitching my own ideas. Now that I am more confident in my abilities, I plan to pitch several of my own stories, focusing on issues that matter deeply to me.

This experience has not only honed my journalism skills but also reinforced my commitment to making a difference through my writing. I hope that my journey will inspire other young Black women to pursue their dreams as well. Representation matters, and seeing someone like me succeed in this field can encourage others to follow suit.

My internship at Ms. Magazine has been a deeply enriching experience. It has confirmed my love for journalism and my desire to continue working in this field. I look forward to contributing more to the magazine and to exploring new avenues like podcasting. Most importantly, I hope to continue making a meaningful impact through my work, both at Ms. Magazine and beyond.
