The Newcomb Archives is pleased to invite applications for our 2020 Gender and Archives Diversity Research Fellowship program. Open to current Tulane students who are rising juniors, seniors, and those entering a 4+1 graduate program in the fall, these awards are intended to support the discovery of untold stories of Newcomb College and Tulane University through significant archival research. Fellowships come with a stipend of $1,000.
Fellowships are open to current Tulane students who are rising juniors or seniors, as well as students entering a 4+1 masters program in the fall.
Applicants must specify their own area of research interest that investigates individuals or campus communities that have been underrepresented and under-documented in the history of the University, with an intersectional focus on gender.
While fellows are encouraged to use the collections at the Newcomb Archives, they may also use other campus archives, such as the Louisiana Research Collection, the University Archives, and the Amistad Research Center.
The research period will begin with a mandatory orientation at the Newcomb Archives in May (date TBD). Fellows are required to conduct 40 hours of independent research over the course of the summer that they may schedule depending on their availability and the availability of archives staff.
In addition, they must submit a final project to the Newcomb Archives no later than August 14. The format of the final project may vary depending on fellows’ interests. Examples include a paper, digital project or exhibit, or a small exhibit or art installation.
