Current Selection

Our Spring book club selection is Colored Television by Danzy Senna.

In this acclaimed 2024 novel, bestselling author Danzy Senna delivers a sharp, satirical exploration. of race, ambition, identity, and creative labor in contemporary America. The story follows Jane Gibson, a biracial writer in Los Angeles whose long-gestating literary project stalls, prompting her to pursue work in television writing as a way to support her family and sustain her creative life. Through JAne's struggles with artistic integrity, professional reinvention, and the pressures of representing mixed-race identity within Hollywood and cultural institutions, Colored Television blends humor and incisive critique to illuminate the complexities of race, class, and media in modern life. The novel was named a Good Morning America Book Club pick and has been widely praised for its wit and cultural insight.
