Peer Mentor Program
Participate in one of the most popular Newcomb traditions! Hundreds of undergraduates choose to participate in this program every year. Mentors serve as a resource and guide as each first-year transitions to Tulane. There will be at least 2 events for both mentors and mentees to attend together to foster a closer relationship, build community with Newcomb Institute, and promote professional and leadership development skills. These events will be exclusive to mentors and mentees and feature unique opportunities to grow as campus leaders. Participation is open to all students, regardless of their gender identity.
Mentor Application: All rising sophomore, junior, or senior students interested in mentoring a first-year student are encouraged to apply. The application process for Newcomb Peer Mentors will take place in the spring semester.
Mentor applicants must:
- be a rising sophomore or above
- have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- be on campus during Fall 2025
Expectations, all mentors must:
- Complete Mentor Institute Canvas modules before June deadline
- Attend Newcomb Mentor Training (typically in early August, via Zoom)
- Attend the annual Pinning Ceremony with their mentee(s) at the beginning of the fall semester
- Attend at least one additional Newcomb Peer Mentor event with their mentee during the semester
- Complete regular check-ins with their mentee(s) throughout the semester
- Submit mentor update reports throughout the semester as requested
Mentee Application: Registration for first-year or and transfer students will open on June 1st each year. Registration will close when we have an equal amount of mentors to mentees OR by July 15th, whichever comes first. We recommend registering well in advance of the deadline because spaces may fill up. Pairs will be matched by late July based on interests, majors, hometown, etc. Mentors will contact mentees in early August.
