Betsy Lopez is the Program Coordinator of Internships and Experiential Learning. She oversees and develops experiential learning opportunities for students, which include internships and career readiness programs to assist students in the transition from college to the professional world. Betsy has worked to expand the Women to Women alumnae mentoring program, connect students to conferences, increase student awareness and engagement in NCI programs, and create new initiatives for students. Betsy is active on multiple campus committees and the Newcomb Inclusivity and Diversity Excellence Assessment. Betsy is the staff advisor for Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity (APO), The International Society (TIS), and Women and Youth Supporting Each Other (WYSE).
She is a Louisiana native and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Newcomb-Tulane in 2010 with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Communication and dual minors in Latin American Studies and Philosophy. She was heavily involved on and off campus and received the Newcomb College Institute 1914-2004 Award for Exceptional Character, Glendy Burke Medal in Communication, and Bea Field Alumni Relations Award. After graduating, Betsy wanted to further her commitment to the city and she completed a year of service as an AmeriCorps*VISTA at New Orleans Outreach and Tulane Center for Public Service. She was hired on as the Volunteer Coordinator to manage and grow the AmeriCorps team, create and implement an internship program, and work directly with partner schools to oversee all volunteer-based programs, including 18 university partnerships, 500 long-term volunteers, and countless one-day volunteers. She then worked three years for CASA New Orleans as the Volunteer Recruiter/Trainer where she trained everyday citizens to serve as committed CASA Advocates for children in foster care, curated monthly in-services, developed innovative trainings and recruitment initiatives.
When Betsy is not at NCI, she is either working on her Masters of Science through the Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy or teaching at Pure Barre.
