The Powerhouse Speaker Series provides students with a number of role models with diverse careers, research areas and backgrounds. In 2006-2007, speakers addressed issues ranging from an architects perspective on rebuilding New Orleans to civil rights. Each year, Powerhouse Speakers meet with students in small groups to share stories about their careers, professional journeys and personal backgrounds.
Newcomb College Institute Summit, held every two years, brings world-renowned academics and activists together to discuss issues pertinent to women in higher education. In addition to meeting with the presenters, professors and community members in attendance, students from around the country have an opportunity to present their own research and projects.
Lisa Ling, host of National Geographic's Explorer, spoke to Summit participants as the 2007 Adele Ramos Salzer Lecturer. Ling shared stories from her career and addressed a number of issues facing women around the world.
